Click Away, Click Away

*Crabby had a really interesting post yesterday about resistant starches. What I found equally interesting was the fact that a few of her readers (the Bag Lady) enjoy raw potatoes as snack. Whaaa? Have I been missing out on a healthy delicious food that needs no cooking, only de-skinning? I was so intrigued. So I tried it last night; I peeled and sliced a potato, added a little salt and took a bite.

Uh, Yuck.
(Any raw tater eaters out there?)

*Unemployed? Half-fast is looking for an Evil Arch Nemesis. Although I'm kind of thinking no one over here would qualify as the "Candidates with a proven track record of evil will be given priority." I did read that post and wished I had faster running times...and a handlebar mustache...and some henchmen...(wait, I've got some of those...)

*Mizfit's arms: watch the video, people.
That's all I'm gonna say.

Click Away Day

*Reader Rachel sent this to me last week:
Too Cold to Exercise? Try Another Excuse
I've gone back to read it more than once, thanks Rachel!

*Now to counteract my fussypants attitude (see yesterday's post), here's an inspirational video for you. Did you all see that Live Your Best Life Oprah with Bob Greene? Remember Jeff? Here's the deal. Just click on this link, and then click on the video link that says, "See How Jeff Inspires Classmates at the Gym." (sorry, there's an ad at the beginning of the video). Stay with me people, if you haven't seen it, it really is fantastic.

*Feeling good and ready to get to the gym? Now you must go read this post by Cara of MiddleSister. And while you're there, you might want to read about her satanic cat, or her feelings on the banana. You will burn calories from laughing, promise.

*Chris from Notes from the Trenches has started another blog and I am insanely jealous. 1) She is way cooler than me. 2) It's all about their family not spending money and de-cluttering their lives. Awhile ago, I had honestly tossed around starting another blog with a similar idea but dismissed it because whoa. No time. But of course she's got the time, you know with the homeschooling and the seven kids...
Anyway, if any of you looking to cut back on spending and just "stuff" in general, go check out A Year Off. (I know, not very much weightloss related. But if you think about it hard enough, it kind of is.)

*And last but not least, Have you met Janice? New blog. Cute Mommy. Incredible Before and Afters. Go say hi!

That is all.

(And yes, it's still winter. I just checked.)

Weigh in and Random Inedible Treats

Molly: First of all - .6 loss! That is great considering I was away from home. My goal for last week was to go to the gym. At the last minute, my family went to Vegas for a buying show (I own a home decor & furniture store). I walked for two days straight. The day we drove home, my son got the stomach flu so I have been up at night with him and then my baby. So, I did not go to the gym yesterday or today. I'm just lucky to have my eyes open. I'm going to try to get back on the Weight Watchers plan starting on Sunday. I just need to get back on the program. It's so hard when you travel or are staying at someone else's home with their food. I actually packed my fiber One bars which I thought was a victory for me. I just can't wait until my life gets back to normal.

Katie: Well, in light of my wretched eating yesterday, (although I didn't OVEReat- I just didn't very healthily, "Mmm, fruit tart for breakfast...cookies for lunch? Sure!"), I'm thrilled with .5. I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that since my muffintop post, where I was positively still a 10, I have only lost ONE point FIVE pounds. Hello?? This more than anything else just goes to show it's not all about the number on the scale. I was sure I was going fit into that 8 in a weigh-in week where I lost 2.9 or something like that. So, let's take one more look at those words of wisdom on our sidebar:

"Both of us use weights on a regular basis and find our actual weight doesn't always match the changes we see in our body."

Amen. This will save me from discouragement about the scale for at LEAST another month! ;)

Ladies in the race? How'd you do this week?

Now onto those treats:

Has anyone checked out The Weigh We Were lately? (They're in our sidebar under "They Did It.") They revamped their website and now have a blog directory. So all of you "weighty" bloggers should skedaddle over there and add your site. Here's a "before and after" I pulled from them. This is Erin, she is 29 and went from a Size 16 to a 6 in a year and a half. Click on the photo for the rest of the story.

Have you guys visited Crabby McSlacker lately? Well, awhile back she had a really fun personality quiz...not what you're thinking I promise. Go check it out, it's hilarious: What Kind of Food Freak Are You?

And after you say hi over there, you might want to go check a new weighty blog skinnify. Even though they've only got a few posts up, they're worth the click- super witty. Also, grrrl power has a great post up about listening to her body with some great tips in there.

And FYI

Molly's weigh in should be posted a little later in the morning, so check back!

Thanks so much for all of your support and encouragement with my victory post yesterday! I wish I could fly all of you out here just to go to lunch and hang out. But that won't be happening anytime soon, so just know I consider my bloggy friends the best support out there!

Molly Update

I talked with Molly last night. (Remember? she's on the Alaskian cruise...) The phone reception was not the best so all I (think) I heard was the food in Juno was pretty. I also heard she was eating fruits and veggies and something about 2 pounds. Lost, gained? Shrimp Consumed? We'll see!

(And by the way, Jessica sent me an article she wrote for Health.com. It's great, check it out if you get a chance: The Weight of It All. And, if you've still got time, Crabby over at Cranky Fitness has some great thoughts about balance.)

Costco Pizza and Helpful Websites

Have you ever had a bite of Costco pizza? It is so wonderful looking with the cheese dripping off. My friend warned me because she wasn't warned and succumbed to her inner temptations - 19 points a slice! I had to go to Costco today with my kids. I had to walk by the pizza. So I bought a package of the Fudge bars that are one point each and we all ate them as we walked by the pizza station. I felt like I was getting in the pizza's face saying, "take that you evil 19 point temptation! I WON!" When I told my kids sorry, no pizza because there was 19 points, they couldn't believe it!

Today, I thought I would share with you some sites that might help you with recipes or eating out.
Weight Watchers: You don't have to be a online member. There are alot of recipes on there. Also, in the forums people post different recipes.
Light and Tasty: This site you can specify lower in fat recipes with nutritional info added. That way, if you are a WW member, you can figure out your points.
Dotti's Weight Loss Zone If you click on restaurants, it will take you to most chain restuarants and give you the WW points value for their food. It has really helped me with date nights. PF Changs and Chili's. Those great Lettuce wraps? 11.5 pts for your appetizer!
3 Fat Chicks: Look under food and then recipes, you now have just about 1000 recipes with nutrionnal values at your fingertips. One thing I like is that readers can put their votes in. 5 eggs getting the highest review and you can also add a comment.
Smart Ones: When you buy a 'Smart Ones' WW meal, you can turn this simple meal into a better meal with just a few simple, extra ingredients. Click on recipes first.

To weigh or not to weigh

Molly forwarded this link to me the other day about weighing yourself every day. I don't think I would be able to do it and retain my sanity.

"Although weight does fluctuate daily, daily weigh-ins can help you better determine when a weight fluctuation appears to be sticking around and help motivate you to pay extra attention to diet and exercise."

Maybe it's a better idea once you've actually lost the weight to just keep tabs on yourself. I can't weigh myself too often also because it's harder for me to actually SEE progress. It reminds me of my *favorite* question on a long trip: "are we there yet?" It's hard to see how much ground I've covered if I'm constantly checking. I love the weekly weigh, or sometimes every couple of days. I just thnk I would drive myself crazy with all of the fluctuation day to day. What do you think?

On Fire with SparkPeople

Anyone out there who is even remotely interested in losing weight or just even being healthy has GOT to check out this website. I know several other websites have something like this, i.e. BiggestLoserClub, Dr. Phil, WeightWatchers, Fitness Magazine, Shape, etc. However I don't think any of them are as comprehensive or free. Here are some highlights:

The ticker: a biggie for me. Who wouldn't want to see that joyful little person/rabbit/sun reach their destination?

Sparkteams:

A very cool feature. It's basically a place for likeminded folks to gather, share their weight loss struggles, start up challenges, and chat about the things they have in common. As I started to browse I realized they literally have a sparkteam for EVERYone. Are you a new Mormon mom wanting to shed those extra baby pounds? Maybe you're Vegan? Do you enjoy Gardening? Vegan Mormon who likes to Garden? THere's a group for you! no. I'm totally serious. Some curious examples:

..and I think I might just join this one:

OH, and Molly, they've even got a "cruisin' sparkteam" for people wanting to lose weight for a cruise this summer. hello.
Just click on the title and it'll link you there!

Check out this slideshow

Sister Skinny is calling all ladies! Want to join us in our challenge?

I was browsing Flickr last night, (it's dangerously addictive) I stumbled on this slideshow. I think it's supposed to be a serious commentary on self acceptance, but I just chuckled: that little scale looking back at itself in the dressing room? that's just funny. I did enjoy it though, not in a "what a sad state of mankind" way, but just because that's how I usually feel when I start losing weight.
