Life Sans Scale
I've been walking around for the last couple of days desperately trying to find ways to gauge my body's progress without numbers. Do you remember that Seinfeld episode where George's pants swoosh? I feel like I'm walking around like George, going, "What's that noise?" But it's more like: "What was that? Are my thighs closer together than they were yesterday?"
or, "I can't remember...was that roll there before?" RIDICULOUS!
And although I haven't made my mind up for sure, I do think I'll let him out of the closet on Friday for a quickie weigh.
Biggest Loser
Phil's Gone. Waaaaaaa! Who am I suppose to root for now? I loved Jerry, Patty, and Phil. Uhh, Go Bob!
Who is your fav?
For the Ab Haters:
More plank! (Please remember, I am NO trainer, don't know jack about form, and am not certified in any way to be doling out exercise advice.)
(FYI: I'm using a paper towel under my feet.) Anyone else have some crazy planks they'd like to tell us all about? Leave a comment! Or better yet, send us a picture! The email link is in the sidebar)
Random FYI:
We've got dear friends staying with us right now, and so I have been (and will be) away from my computer for a few days. Sorry if I get behind in bloggy visits and email, I sneak them in when possible! Pictures if my Star Wars brood will be posted in the next couple of days. For those of you who care (family), and those of you who are nice enough to humor me (Crabby, and Randi) I'm hoping to finish them by Saturday.

Dressing Room Project
I saw this over at That's Fit yesterday and couldn't wait to spread the word. Have you heard of it? It is basically groups of girls putting up little signs like this in dressing rooms all over.
In an very small, very unforgiving place wouldn't you love to look up and see on of these?

Man, I could've really used one of those when I was trying on those 8's!
This makes me smile and kind of want to cry. Check out these t-shirts:

Just knowing this whole project is being done by young women who want girls everywhere to feel good about themselves just gives me goosebumps.
Want to get involved? Go check it out: The Dressing Room Project

Weight of My World
Catchy title dontcha think? For those of you who have been around you know that it is the blog of the lovely JessiferSeabs (aka Jessica). We love this girl and think you will too. And just check out those rockin before and afters! We asked her a couple of questions and were way impressed with the answers. Here is our highlight of the week! (For more images click here and then here. sorry they're not bigger!)
SS: What are some "absolutes" that anyone should know as they're considering committing to lose weight?
1) Be sure you're doing it for you and only you.
2) Don't think about the entire amount of weight at once -- I NEVER started this journey thinking I was going to lose 75-100 lbs! Oh my goodness, no way, I would have freaked myself out. I've always said "I just want to lose 5 lbs. I've been saying that for YEARS
3) Sometimes you will gain. No whining. Accept it, move on, use it as motivation to do better. There's no crying in baseball.
4) Don't put a time limit on your weight loss -- that is a recipe for failure. My motto is, "Every day that I do this, I"m better off than the day before." I've been doing this for almost 4 years. If I want that to be a depressing fact it can be... I choose to think of it as empowering. LOOK at how long I've been making my health a priority! I can TRULY say that this is my lifestyle now. Total habit. I'm not "dieting" and I haven't been for years. Weight loss has become the by-product of my lifestyle habits.
5) "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got." don't be afraid to change or try new things or shake it up a little bit. Your body is smart and it catches on and gets into plateau's and ruts. Exercsie more, exercise less. Eat more, eat less. Try Core. Switch to Flex. Go vegan for a week... be adventurous.
SS: How do you stay motivated? What keeps you going?
Ever seen the movie "American Beauty"? There's a line where Kevin Spacey says something to the effect of, "It's a wonderful thing when you realize you still have the ability to surprise yourself."
I'm surprising myself every day, doing things I never imagined in my wildest dreams I was capable of. Marathon? What?? In the beginning, it was all about vanity -- smaller clothes, tighter butt, etc... snagging and keeping a man, etc... but that stuff doesn't really matter to me anymore. On the roughest of days, what keeps me going is knowing that I have the power to make OTHER people believe in themselves and their ability to do this.
SS: What has been the best reward of losing the weight?
An overall confidence and feeling of pride in my accomplishments. Feeling like an athlete, like my body is capable of doing incredible things, like I'm tough and ABLE. Carrying myself with pride.
SS: How's that for awesome!? Go check out JessiferSeabs for her adventures in weight loss, running, and life!

A word to the haters
I get a lump in my throat every time I watch this:
Both Molly and I have complained on various occasions about our knees. We have never been fond of them. But in honor of girl's self esteem everywhere, we say, Hooray for our knees! those uniquely shaped, slightly chubby knobs- here's to you! no more complaints...

for now...
this week.

Space Ranger
Every now and then as I shut my van door, I see my distorted self in the reflection and for the briefest of seconds I think, "Am I really that fat?" The thought usually lingers with me for a couple of minutes, and then my brain goes into "don't be ridiculous" mode.
Anyway, today Sam had to bring something that started with "B" to preschool. As I was putting Buzz in his little schoolbag I was reminded of one of my favorite movie moments from Toy Story 2. Buzz Lightyear sees the new anti-gravity belt, goes to check it out, and the first thing he says when he sees "himself" is:
"Am I really that fat?"
