Weekly Weigh-In

[Posted by Molly]
Well, I'm up .2 -that's right- .2. Yes, it's frustrating - yes, I'm working hard. I went to the gym 5 days last week. Cardio on all 5 and weights on 3 of them. All I can say is that I did my best and sometimes trying to lose weight just stinks. That's all I have to say.

Friday Weigh-In

[Posted by Molly]
New Year remember? Well, I did one of my goals. I drove down and re-signed with Weight Watchers. Although I have been sticking to their plan for the past two weeks, part of the success they claim is statistically if you GO to their meetings and have to be accountable to the scale gods there, you will be more successful.

Although I think I don't have time (hear that? Just another excuse!), I made time. The Weight Watchers near me doesn't allow children (I swear I want to call the ACLU). So it has always been a challenge trying to find a place for Andie. Luckily, the other half of "Sister Skinny" (the one that IS skinny!) has always graciously accepted to babysit Andie. (I think she enjoys the touch of femininity in her home - no guns or swords are in Andie's diaper bag). BUT, WW just added a class for moms with children. I went this morning, made the commitment of 10 weeks, weighed in (I'm not going to talk about it) and sat in the meeting. You know, I just had a smile on my face for being there.

Today was legs at the gym - my favorite. Probably because my legs are so strong. You know the machine where you put the bar behind your neck and bend down to a 90 degree angle? Working your bootie? Can I just tell you, I LOVE that exercise! Can't you literally feel that specific glute muscle just firing up? Anyways, I LOVE it! A full 45 minutes on legs (jello by the end) and then 1/2 hour incline walking on the treadmill.

What a great day!

[Molly] Oh My Heavens! Fourteen 7 yr olds coming over for Belguim Waffles and making sugar cookies to decorate...AM I NUTS???!! It's my daughter's birthday & I made 6 batches of sugar cookie dough! My #1 weakness is cookie dough! Homemade frosting, waffles, syrup, GIVE ME STRENGTH! So, I taped my mouth. I cannot wear tape during the party though - so wish me luck! I'll get back to you...I might just take Katie's 1.3 pounds over to me!

Mighty Weigh-In

[Posted by Molly]
Stand in line to give me a HIGH FIVE! That's right - a HIGH FIVE! Five pounds this week. We all know that it's probably water weight but I don't care - 5 numbers down on the scale. I'm in the groove!

I think I'm going to start posting for the month of December all of the goodies I'm turning down. Last night, at a church gathering, a hot piece of chocolate cake with icing dripping off & ice cream. The ladies were so gracious there that every time one of the servers walked by me and saw I didn't have anything in my fat fingers, they offered me this tempting treat. 4 times later I was getting mad. Finally, I grabbed a cup of water just so I could have something in my hand. Although church meetings always have good intentions, have you ever noticed you cannot have any gathering without food?!

1 Full Pound Lost!

[Posted by Molly]I didn't post about my loss (yes, let me say that again - LOSS) last week. I was down 1 full pound! Not point something, a full pound! It's nice to be back with showing a loss. It was that time of the month for me so hopefully, there will be even a bigger loss this week. Right now, my biggest obstacle is my neighbors. We probably get over 20 neighbor gifts during the holiday season, mostly goodies. My biggest weakness on this earth is homemade cookies. Our doorbell rang at 9:30 p.m. last night with a plate full of homemade sugar cookies. My husband, although he knows I'm trying to lose weight, it is just his nature to offer everything and anything, brought up the plate to me in bed to see if I wanted any. I looked at him, took one, opened our bedroom window and out it went! (I think he thinks I'm going nuts!!) What a great victory for me! He quickly took the rest of the plate downstairs. I probably would of just kept hurling them out of the window....

Here's to a great week in this fattening, sugar-filled, candy-coated holiday season! I'm going for a full 2 lbs this week. Tune in Friday....

Katie and Molly Weigh In

Molly:
Well, today I would like to throw the towel in. Luckily, there isn't a towel around. I ate perfectly this week. Within my points but I'm up 1.4 lbs. Funny, I ran into Kate at the gym while I was on Satan and she said she was up 1 lb. I was feeling bad for her because she really is working hard. I know what my problem is though - gym time. This was only my second time at the gym this week. I was telling Kate I just have to get back with 100% commitment to the gym. For me, it's eating + gym for the total package. Very frustrating...I can't even blame it on "gaining muscle" because I haven't been lifting!

Positive side - I still can take Satan on! 30 minutes felt really good. I'm going shopping today and getting a whole slew of great foods and starting off a new week which includes a run to Costco for Fiber One bars.

One thing that has made me chuckle this week (without being too descriptive) is that my kids LOVE the Fiber One bars. I put one in their lunches but sometimes they sneak another one. My kids can't understand HOW I know that they are sneaking them. (I won't tell you the comments they have made coming out of the restroom...let's just say it's quite obvious!) So our family is VERY REGULAR!

Katie:
"C'mon, come on now!...Big Money, Biiiig Money Baby!!" Does anyone else say this when they get on the scale for weigh-in?

No money this week. I gained a pound! AGH!
Trying to stay positive. Here's what I'm thinking:

I exercised everyday this week. I even went to the gym twice on Teusday.

My eating was totally wonky (see yesterday's post).

TTOM always throws me off.

Still holding under 140. Although this is the lowest weight I've ever been; I wonder if I've reached that "set point". You know, where your body is comfortable at a certain weight and tries to keep you there? (Randi got me thinking about after yesterday)

So today officially begins interval training. I need to switch it up. Satan will always hold a special place in my heart, but right now, I think my body needs a jolt.

Over the past 3 weeks, I've +1.5, lost 1.2 and now +1. I don't doubt I will lose 7 or so pounds during the Christmas Challenge. I just hope it's not the same 7 over and over again!

Chunky Dunkin!

.8 GAIN! I'm jumping for joy!! .8 is great! For the week that I've had with relatives staying with us, this is a miracle. I'm sorry, but it is so hard for me to be in the groove when I'm not in my normal routine. I'll try better on August 21st (my company leaves).

Don't you LOVE this sign? It just makes me giggle. All summer as I've been swimming with my kids I really haven't even been as self conscious as I usually am. It's probably because I am trying to lose weight. Really-that's all it takes for my self esteem. Just that I'm TRYING. Call me crazy but you can actually feel skinnier when you TRY! A family member saw this sign (who is naturally skinny) and said to me, "what does THAT mean?" without a smile on her face. I immediately thought she is missing out on an aspect of my life that I find a lot of humor in. How would that be to NOT get the sign???!

Weigh in and Random Inedible Treats

Molly: First of all - .6 loss! That is great considering I was away from home. My goal for last week was to go to the gym. At the last minute, my family went to Vegas for a buying show (I own a home decor & furniture store). I walked for two days straight. The day we drove home, my son got the stomach flu so I have been up at night with him and then my baby. So, I did not go to the gym yesterday or today. I'm just lucky to have my eyes open. I'm going to try to get back on the Weight Watchers plan starting on Sunday. I just need to get back on the program. It's so hard when you travel or are staying at someone else's home with their food. I actually packed my fiber One bars which I thought was a victory for me. I just can't wait until my life gets back to normal.

Katie: Well, in light of my wretched eating yesterday, (although I didn't OVEReat- I just didn't very healthily, "Mmm, fruit tart for breakfast...cookies for lunch? Sure!"), I'm thrilled with .5. I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that since my muffintop post, where I was positively still a 10, I have only lost ONE point FIVE pounds. Hello?? This more than anything else just goes to show it's not all about the number on the scale. I was sure I was going fit into that 8 in a weigh-in week where I lost 2.9 or something like that. So, let's take one more look at those words of wisdom on our sidebar:

"Both of us use weights on a regular basis and find our actual weight doesn't always match the changes we see in our body."

Amen. This will save me from discouragement about the scale for at LEAST another month! ;)

Ladies in the race? How'd you do this week?

Now onto those treats:

Has anyone checked out The Weigh We Were lately? (They're in our sidebar under "They Did It.") They revamped their website and now have a blog directory. So all of you "weighty" bloggers should skedaddle over there and add your site. Here's a "before and after" I pulled from them. This is Erin, she is 29 and went from a Size 16 to a 6 in a year and a half. Click on the photo for the rest of the story.

Have you guys visited Crabby McSlacker lately? Well, awhile back she had a really fun personality quiz...not what you're thinking I promise. Go check it out, it's hilarious: What Kind of Food Freak Are You?

And after you say hi over there, you might want to go check a new weighty blog skinnify. Even though they've only got a few posts up, they're worth the click- super witty. Also, grrrl power has a great post up about listening to her body with some great tips in there.

And FYI

Molly's weigh in should be posted a little later in the morning, so check back!

Thanks so much for all of your support and encouragement with my victory post yesterday! I wish I could fly all of you out here just to go to lunch and hang out. But that won't be happening anytime soon, so just know I consider my bloggy friends the best support out there!

Weigh In

I didn't lose any weight this week.

Well, if you can call .1 a loss then woo-hoo!

At this rate, maybe I'll reach my goal when my kids graduate from high school! Ha!

Anyone else have a substantial loss out there and want to share?

I didn't do the best with my goals (obviously) so I'm posting them again this week:
-Show at least a one pound loss by next Friday
-Go to bed early at least 5 nights a week.
-Don't eat my kid's food.

I think for a kickstart I might reward myself once I hit the 130's. I tend to get stuck in the low 140's, well I don't know if stuck is the right word, maybe "comfortable." The only time I was ever in the 130's was on the way up. (What was that... 7th grade?)

So for a reward I'm thinking new swimsuit. I posted earlier on one that I really liked but I've found a couple more...and probably will look at a bazillion before I actually purchase one! I found this one at Poppi Swimwear.

I love the idea of a retro swimsuit, and I do like this one, but I'm not sure if it gives off the old lady vibe. Thoughts?

Molly: Well, this is the 1st weigh in since the cruise. I'm up 3.4 lbs. To be honest, I'm surprised its not 10. I'll take it. Another week down, another one starting. New fresh week. That's what I'm talking about...

Weekly Weigh-In

MOLLY: Great week! 2.8 lbs! I'm very happy with that. I'm in the 150's. Great feeling to leave the 160's. At the WW meeting, some great things were said. I love the "watch out for the BLT's" (bites, licks, tastes). The lady gave an example of putting all of your BLT's in a ziploc baggie for a week and look at it at the end of the week. One man did this literally and brought the bag in. It was disgusting! Studies have shown that when you don't closely monitor what you are eating (by journaling in particular) most people underestimate between 500-1000 PER DAY!. And people wonder why they aren't losing any weight?

Another good thought was that you don't have to eat it just because you thought about it (or walked by it). How many times have you walked by something in your kitchen and thought "I want to eat that" but your really not hungry? Then, that turns into the BLT syndrome.

And last but not least - I WILL NOT GIVE UP! Keep on plugging at it!

KATIE: I got nothin for ya. No loss, no gain. It's ok though. Not to excuse myself, but given several circumstances of this week I'm happy with a "not gain". For example, we had some friends staying with us this week. Love them to death. We ate out and stayed up a bit later than normal. It was a ton of fun but I did get somewhat thrown off of my routine. AND, lest I forget to mention: they had a baby since the last time we'd seen them...a big adorable tub o'love baby.

Every time I looked at him I suddenly found myself wanting a gigantic vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting!
So, "life" hit (as it inevitably does) this week and I feel like I weathered it pretty well.

Weigh-in Day...and We're Happy

Katie: The scale was kind to me today. Maybe I'll replace his battery or give him a good cleaning, he deserves it. Because today he showed me a 2.3 loss! He shall be forgiven for previous bad behavior.

Also, I'm pretty excited because the pants shown below didn't fit when we started Sister Skinny. Although they are a 10, they have been smaller than the rest of my 10's. (Sorry, I tried lightening them up in iPhoto but they are black pants and... I didn't have the best lighting.)

I tend to relax my standards with my eating after I have a good loss AND weekends are a always harder for me. So I'm trying to go into the next couple of days with my eyes open! (and my mouth SHUT! :)

Molly: 4.8 lbs!!! All I can say is that I worked really hard, wrote everything down, went to the gym and am so happy. It was so fun this morning to happen to be at the gym at the same time as Kate. We both walked over to "the machine" (the one I posted about yesterday) and we both did it next to each other. We didn't talk much - we couldn't - but it is just so great to be doing this with someone - let alone your baby sister!

I learned this at my meeting today: Try writing down your food BEFORE you eat. Interesting concept. Then, that limits you. If it is not written down - you can't eat it that day. That will be my goal for this week. Hopefully, by next weigh in, instead of being in the 160's, I'll be in the 150's!!!!

Alaskan Cruise: 16 more days! That is motivation enough!

Big Fat Zero

Probably the wrong words to use but BIG FAT 0 on the weight loss. It's o.k. though, I do think my body is changing. Kate commented that my pants looked looser. (I didn't tell her but I hadn't washed those pants so they were stretched out - whatever it takes...) I went home to Detroit this past weekend and thought I had done fabulous. I actually walked around the airport, brought my own food for the plane rides, etc. but my body is such that if I don't exercise hard it just doesn't come off. It's o.k. though, I got to have one on one time with my mom. When does that ever happen? We went walking together which was so great. When you are one of six siblings AND you live out of state AND there are 16 grandchildren vying for her attention, I will take ANY one on one time with my mom instead of killing myself at a stinky gym!

GOALS THIS WEEK: Gym 4 times, veggies and fruits each day (5 servings) and going to bed at 10:30 p.m.

Did I mention that Jordin won? (That is for Kate)

Weigh In Time

Well, another 3 lbs this week! I really enjoy Weight Watchers. Pretty easy. I didn't want to post right after Kate because I didn't want her to feel bad BUT I do have lot more weight to lose than her. Anyone else have weight loss this week? At my meeting today there was a total of 143 lbs lost from the members that were there. Way to go!

DRUM ROLL PLEASE...

I AM ON FIRE! I stepped on the scale today and.....5lbs!!! (please note: I started last Wednesday night on Weight Watchers - so a little bit more than a week). BUT STILL! It went down! My goal for this week is a solid 2 lbs, eating 5 servings of fruits & veggies (veggies is very hard for me) & working out 5 days this week. A minimum of 45 min of cardio, 3 of those days lifting weights also. I just have to say I am so proud of us! Katie is the driving force behind all of this and I can't WAIT for the day that I'm in the 140's! She looks awesome!
