Glory be and Hallelujah.
It's happened.
I'm not sure when exactly, (like maybe in the middle of the night on Tuesday, or Monday afternoon), but as of today I AM AN 8! You might want to go read this post if you'd like some background on the pair of jeans I'm about to show you:
These are the same pair. I can breath. I can walk. No acrobatics required to shimmy into them anymore. I picked them up a couple of days ago, put them on, and thought they were the tens. But then I realized they had the tag on (I kept it on because I was so excited I actually owned a pair of 8's).
Cautious, but extremely excited, I went to the mall last night just to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. Aaron stayed home and made cookies with the boys, a win-win-win situation. I've been wearing them comfortably for a couple of days now, but didn't want to post on my victory until I had some evidence. Anyway, I started at the Gap and pranced from store to store (skipping the junior-ish ones mind you, 5-7-9, no thank you) trying and succeeding at pulling, zipping and buttoning all 8's I tried.
Single digit sizes have been elusive for SO long! And while I realize this whole process is about more than a size: health, fitness, feeling great, (and a ton of other reasons), I'd be lying if I said fitting into a smaller pair of jeans didn't feel friggin awesome.

This Time It's For Real

Fear of the Muffintop
Are you familiar with the term "muffintop?"
Did you know, for example, that there are people in the world who take pictures of other people who exhibit this condition and then put them up on their Flickr page? Let's all say it together now: YIKES.
So, a little while ago I posted on possibley being an 8; I tried on a pair of Gap jeans in said size that were, errr, rather tight. And while I do not regret purchasing them, they will be shelved temporarily. Because I've noticed what fits in the morning does not always fit in the afternoon...or even mid-morning. And come to think of it, those saggy bottomed 10's shrunk up quite nicely in the wash. Sure it only lasted 2 days of wear for them to stretched out again. I do laundry enough that throwing them in with a random load more often shouldn't be a problem.
One last thing about the muffintop; after going through aforementioned slideshow, I've noticed it has everything to do with the cut of jeans, not the thinness of waistline or torso. I don't really feel self-conscious about my middle, but I would like to stay far far away from this:
and so people, I remain a 10. Don't worry, I won't be here long. :)

8 is Almost Great!
My favorite pair of jeans, (size 10 classic bootcut 1969's from the Gap), are developing a saggy bottom. They went through the wash 3 days before this picture was taken. So, excitedly, I headed off to the mall last night to get the same pair in an 8. However, to my dismay, once I got in the dressing room I found they fit reeeeally tightly. I tried the 10's on again. OK, I'm postive these are too big. 8's. Mmmm, really tight. What what you do? I ventured out of the dressing room and walked over to two lovely Gap "sales associates."
Me: Ummm. Hiiiii. Could you tell me, and be100% honest, Are these too tight?
Them: NO!..NO!...no no no no. Not too tight.
Me: Even in my thighs? (I pointed to the sausage casings)
Them: Mmm, nope. Then the blond one said, "You know, for YOU, it's like, the bootcut doesn't fit like the bootcut."
Me: (slightly confused) Oh. Right. Ok. But what about all these lines under my bum. Don't those look kind of, I don't know, ...squeezy?
The blond: No way. Look. I've got them too. (She turned around to show me. hmm, she had them too, but hers looked not so uncomfortable.)
The brunette: And plus, they'll loosen up as you wear them.
Me: (She did have a point there. But that did imply I'd actually have to WEAR them out.)
The blond: And really, even if you were really thin, they'd still fit you like that.
Now, I know what she *meant* by that, but ouch.
Nevertheless, I was convinced and did end up buying the 8's. Good job ladies! So here's my saggy bottom 10's and the 8's. (They look a little better in the picture than in real life. I'm holding the muffin-top-ness in with my hands, but you'd be able to see it from the front. I just wish I could buy a size in between)
