I Am a MACHINE

Not really. But I had a great weekend. I had a burger and fries (complete with fry sauce...there was some chocolate somewhere in there too...it's only a memory now...) on Friday for my free day. (For those of you who don't know, I follow the Body for Life plan when I'm in weight loss mode.)

Then I felt sick the rest of the day AND into the night. I hadn't eat a single begetable all the live long day. It didn't take long for my body to retaliate. Persistent cramps and bloating made me feel large and sick for a good 14 hours. Nice. This is why I love free days; that's all it took for me to whip out the calendar, plan some meals, blanch me some broccoli, and charge the iPod. Saturday I woke up still feeling gross and told Aaron I was going to run until I felt better. 8 miles later I came back sweaty, sore, and happy. 8 miles. Did you just skim over that part? 8 miles, people. For many of you that's no biggie; for me, it's nothing short of miracle.

Tonight I passed up on a piece of cake. I think I might have higher-than-average run-ins with sweets - especially baked goods. But in a strange way, I'm realizing I won't have to wait long for something even better to show up. (last weekend it was homemade scones). And I can always plan my free days around the highest quality contender.

So I just got back from a 4.5 mile run; I added in some sprint intervals and loved it. Considering it's a cloudy and gray Monday morning, I'm feeling very ready for the week.

Are you INSANE?!?! You doing 8 miles makes you just short of a God to me. I would die at 1/4 mile. Alright. Maybe 1/2 mile. I dream to be where you are.

Katie...look at your saggy bootie!! AWESOME!!! Those size 6 are just in reach. GREAT JOB on the 8 miles too!! That is not an easy task. Good for you.

You are on a roll! Be careful and don't increase your weekly mileage too quickly or you will end up with an injury.

Katie,
You are so in a size 6, just look at those size eights they are falling off of you. Go to the store and try on some sixes (I think you will be pleasantly suprised). Those pants look at least two sizes too big for you. You need some tight, hot jeans to show off your bottom!!!!

Congrats on the eight mile run!!! that is awesome, you are a machine.

Wow! Color me impressed. 8 miles is HUGE! Way to go Katieo!

I had a burger and fries this weekend too but it didn't make me sick. But I love that it motivated you to plan out your weekly meals.

Eight miles? Whoa!

And I love the way you balance the occasional indulgence with a bunch of blanched begetables and a long run.

I'm way impressed!

Saweeet! Nice job. That is something I have always dreamed of being able to do.

On a side note .. oops got the wrong book, I got Eating for Life not Body for Life. So now I have to go back and get the other one! Dork!

Passing up cake AND running 8 miles? Sainthood awaits you, my dear!

I wanted a hamburger for one hot minute until I conjured all sorts of lovely images of "Persistent cramps and bloating". Um, no thanks!

Glad the run took care of that burger!

That's what is so amazing about the body. It adapts. Once it starts getting used to all the clean living, the Free days aren't as much fun anymore, for the good. I think the idea of the Free day is more appealing than the reality.

Awesome that you could run 8 miles after that food fest! That's dedication.

Katieo: You should be carrying the torch! Way to go on the 8miles. The weather here has finally made it possible to run again. I ran 2 miles and walked 2 miles the other day and thought I was going to spew a lung. I mark it down to A for effort even if I now only have one lung. You're making all of us jealous, you should be proud.

Good job on the run! About the free days, do you find that they help you to stay on track? I've heard some people say that it's super beneficial but for other people it just seems as though the free day turns into a day of binging. What's your take on it compared to not having a free day?

katieo said...

Sagan, I've heard the same kinds of things. Free days really work for me ONLY when I'm 98.9% on plan the rest of the week. My body really does get trained to get used to more nutritious food. But if I pick here and there through the week, it end up being just a day to eat poorly...it makes it harder for me to get back on the wagon...so yes- I'm a big fan of the free day. it's also really convenient for family gatherings and such...I never feel guilty or "bad" for eating with everyone else. I find the planned splurge works a lot better than the occasional one because it's much easier for me to keep track of.

WHOA!!! Check out the saggy a$$ on those jeans below!! Congrats Momma! It is OBVIOUS how hard you're working!

8 MILES!!!! You are a total rockstar! You are such a huge inspiartion! I love the saggy bottom photo, too funny and what a great feeling. I have some pants like that too, and the best part is remembering that they were tight a couple of months ago ;) BTW the mental pic of the toddler walking with the stroller attached and snorting at his brothers made me snort too!

You are one bad mamma jamma! 8 miles!! Awesome!

I've heard lots of people say the best time to run is when you just don't feel great---it'll get those endorphins going and make you feel better. The half is going to be NOTHING for you if you are already up to 8 miles! Some people only run 10 miles once before their half-marathon and you are almost there.

"Begetable" is one of my favorite words. :-)

okay, so i had to come back and say this: yesterday i dragged myself out the door for a run at 4:30. i totally almost just made it a "power walk" day, but then i remembered your post and how you just ran until you felt good. and while I didn't go do THAT, it did motivate me enough to get in a good run. thanks!

You are all so awesome. Thanks for your comments.

Mrs F: Fry sauce = a little bit of heaven in the form of mayo mixed with ketchup or barbeque sauce. It's better than it sounds.

stephanie. YAY! Just remember, if you're having a hard time just go slower. When i started running people could speedwalk way faster than me!

You RAN 8 miles, that is insanity, I mean wonderous ;). WOW, that really is great!!!

You know, even though you are a sassy size 6 now, you could blog about your running escapades. Just a thought...
Your running has inspired so many. Now I personally don't run, nor do I ever plan too (too dangerous for me, I fall just walking barefoot), but I love hearing about you running after the crazy toddler and in the snow etc.

So just in case you are reconsidering your decision to stop blogging, or having SS withdrawals (like so many of us). Running posts are great :) (like my subtlety?)
