I'm frustrated this morning.
This week I've really been trying to wake up early and get my running, reading, and eating in before the kids wake up. I *love* having that time to myself in the morning. I feel so much more ready to face the tornado that is my children when I start out the day by myself. The strange and annoying this is though, whenever I recommit to waking up before them it only takes a few days for one of them to SOMEHOW, despite all efforts on my part to make NO noise (not even flushing the toilet or turning any lights on), realize I am awake . And heaven forbid mom should be alone in the morning! Monday all the kids "slept in" until 8 am. Today, the six year old woke up at 6:50 am. And when ONE is awake the chances of the others waking up drastically increase. Until eventually...maybe not today...all the kids are waking up earlier and earlier. It's a scary trend, folks. I usually throw my hands up in the air and decide I may as well get some extra sleep.
So I'm off for a short run this morning. Intervals. I'll be back with an update...maybe.
***Update***
Well, one dropped iPod and sore hamstring later- the run wasn't exactly what I was hoping for...but that's what I get after yesterdays post right? ;) Off to go breathe and stretch...and breathe some more...

Hmmm... I don't have any two-legged shrieklings disturbing my morning peace, so I don't really have anything to offer other than sympathy!
Hope your run helped you work off some of the frustration!
thanks glam. :)
All mothers amaze me. How they manage to live their lives while giving so much of themselves to their children is beyond me. I am inspired by you all. Keep on keepin' on Katieo. Way to carve out that time for yourself. I hope you get the space you need so that you might give your family what they need.
Okay, so maybe I'm a terrible mama, but I too need my morning alone time. My kids get up between 8 and 8:30, and I wake up at 5:30am. So tricky as it may be, I turned their door knob backwards so they are locked in, and I don't get them until 8 at the earliest. At first they would wake up if they heard me and get pretty upset, but they quickly learned that they weren't coming out. So now they usually sleep through my noise, and if they do wake up they know to just play quietly until I get them. I'm sure it doesn't work for everyone, but thank heavens it did for me!!
Ugh .. I so know that feeling. You are sitting in your calm, peaceful morning bliss and then all the sudden you hear the door upstairs creak open ... Nooooooooo!
Footsteps come down the stairs and my happy heart drops. Sigh, let the games begin.
But then they look so darn cute with their messed up hair and crooked pajamas. I think that is why children live to see 21. lol
Sorry about the run. Silver lining? You CAN run. lol. My "run" cough, is a fast walk for most people.
thanks lucas, " How they manage to live their lives while giving so much of themselves to their children is beyond me."
it's just an investment ;)
janae, genius.
But I think my kids are just slightly too old for the doorknob thing. We usually have a "nobody under the age of 6 is allowed to be up before 7" policy...but it's harder to enforce when they can come down and see you eating breakfast...
Jennifer,
"But then they look so darn cute with their messed up hair and crooked pajamas. "
YES, LOL... This morning my three year old had blue stamps all over his face and tummy. It had transferred from his hands while he was sleeping. He REALLY looked ridiculous...but didn't know it...
and jennifer, I'm not kidding my run is a fast walk for many people too!
I feel ya! There is nothing like the time alone in the morning before the kids get up. They must have supersonic hearing or something.
Sorry about the run. :(
this is SO MY LIFE as well.

ROFLOL Bwah ha ha! You know that kids have some secret society that gives them some special honing device for when their mom wakes up early for some "me" time, or when we just want to go to the bathroom all by ourselves or when we're big and preggers and look forward to naptime not only for them but ourselves and they DON'T take a nap. I feel ya for sure. I have experienced many a morning that I have tried to get up around 5:30 am and my little guy is up at 5:35. Seriously. I've tried to go ahead w/my workout video or elliptical but he's like a little sea urchin attached to a tank( aka me) and reading? fuggedaboudit. He has to talk to Mommy when I'm trying to read or journal.
Sympathy (or empathy, which ever is appropriate from a nonmom.)
Don't worry about the bad run. If all runs were good, we'd all be runners, it's having a bad run and still running that makes you stronger.
deep i know.
I'm with Lucas... I can barely fit exercise into my life and I don't have any little rugrats running around. It's amazing that you can get anything done. Kudos to you :)
PS: Very excited to hand with my rugrat neices this weekend and hopefully give my sister some peace.
That's a bit frightening to me. Maybe kids have that same-weird-know-when-you-are-awake radar that pets do... because they are dependent on you at all times.
Without days like today, the others wouldn't feel nearly as good.
this means your next run will be amazing.
I am sorry about the kids waking up earlier and earlier. Its because they love you so much :-)
Maybe if you let them all stay up super late? They'll be too tired to get up with you!
And how is Molly doing?
I'm with Glam, I' don't know how you Moms do it. And "two legged shrieklings" had me cracking up.
Sorry about the run, but you've got the right Zen attitude about it! (And your kids are SO lucky to have a healthy balanced mom!)
