18 Degrees

I did it. I actually went for a run in the early morning in the middle of winter, in Utah. It wasn't that bad. The most annoying part was my face nearly being frozen off by canyon wind, oh and stepping knee deep in snow to push the crosswalk button. The other really annoying part was my socks kept slipping down, but that has nothing to do with the cold.

The highlight was running up a very large hill that made me feel like I was halfway up the side of a mountain. Well, I kind of was. I kept imagining Bob Harper jogging backward in front of me, "C'mon Katie. FASTER." I also tried out my new hydration belt. It was perfect! AND allowed me to bring my little camera to take a picture from the top of my hill:

One day down, four to go.

(FYI, Molly's finally back from her business trip and should be back on here soon!)

Katie you are so amazing!! I'm doing the Rex Lee Run in March and I haven't run one step since my half marathon in August. (Dare I admit it?! I was supposed to rest for two weeks after the run ... and I extended that into about five months ... ooops.) I'm dead. But I can't seem to convince myself to run outside. If is FREEZING outside. It is hard enough to get the mail!!

ps. Is Molly's store in the same place, or did she end up moving it?

Any time I want to wimp out of a run, I will come back to look at this post.

That is a gorgeous pic too.

kudos, kiddo.

i wimped out this morning because of the gross snow/rain mix going on out there. I guess I'll go eat lunch instead. I'm jealous.

As if you ran outside in the MORNING during wintertime. I am sufficiently impressed!

If I lived in such a beautiful place, i would try and get up everymorning and take a run too. Nice job for kicking your own butt, and great pic!

That is so fantastic!!! Motivation is hard to find when it's cold outside!

YAY! I'm so happy for you! You set your mind to somethnig and you did...and you felt great afterwards! I'm so proud of you!

PS I'm still scared of running outside...even in the summer.

you are a hardcore badass! way to go!!!

Important question though: were you cold? What did you wear? I also should suck it up and go outside. I'm feeling sorry for myself and crying for summer time so I can run outside again, but we've been having actually really nice weather lately and I should be going out now.

Way to go. I'm such a wuss. If it's rainy or just a tad bit cold here I groan before I go out (FYI: cold here =50, not 18) So I'm way proud of you. Way to go!

Thanks everyone! (And I should say, I'm not positive it was 18 degrees out. But at about 9 am it was 20 degrees, I went running around 7 am before the sun was up, so that's just my best guess.)

Busy day today, I'll try to catch up on your blogs later tonight.

Really quickly though,

Randi, my face was actually the coldest. My thighs were a tad cold but not bad. I wore three layers on top (2 shirts, one pullover fleece), two layers on bottom, and my hat and gloves (and not really great gloves either- they were a pair of my boy's from the dollar store) It really wasn't that bad. I've been dying for warmer weather, but literally can't wait for it. lucas ran a 5K on New Years day in -2 weather or something like that. I read that and was like, uh, yeah, the worst it gets for me is way better than that.

have a good day guys! Thanks again!

Ok, so I was googling some workout music, and guess who's webpage is on the first search result page? You!

Google 'workout playlist' and it's about 7 links down the page!

WOW. You're my hero.

That, or I hate you right now for making me feel guilty. It's a coin toss. :o)

Wow...what a gorgeous view! You are lucky to have that as a reward for making it up the mountain.

First of all...the picture. Wow, how beautiful. Second, 18 degrees? I don't even think I know what that feels like. I start whining when it is less than 50 degrees out, and I'm not even running.

Way to go!

OK, seriously, Utah? That looks like the Yukon or Alaska or something! Such a beautiful picture, but it looks so cold and wintery - and I live in Canada! You rock for running out there. I am such a wuss in he winter.

Good for you! You are seriously braver than I am!

Congrats, Katie. I love that you say one down... that just means that you will keep it up and get to the point where it will just seem like part of the routine. Nice!

I can't even stand walking to my car from the house in this weather, let alone running in it for minutes at a time ON PURPOSE! Which is probably why you're way closer to a size 6 than I am! lol!

KatieO is my HerO! ;) Yeah, I'm a cheeseball. So what?!

Hey girl!! Congrats!! That is amazing. And knowing everyone is behind you is the best!!

I bet it was way more fulfilling when you do the run outside than inside!! I am jealous!!
