Come See What I'm Eating

[Posted by Katieo]
It's "New Feature" Day on Sister Skinny.

As part of my new no-gym-membership-adjustment, I've made a couple of changes. One of them being the existence of a pen and small notebook in my kitchen, otherwise known as a food diary. I have always planned out my dinners and now find myself aggressively strategizing for the rest of my meals (thanks in part to said small notebook).

So you now have another reason to visit us every single day (because we know you all come here EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. RIIIIGHT??). Once you get here, simply click on the broccoli trifecta and you will be taken to a photo. A picture of one of our meals from the previous day. Sounds pretty exciting eh?

Wait. Wake up. It gets better.

We want to see the healthiest thing YOU ate today. Or yesterday. Or this year. Want to see your favorite "healthy food" listed here? Send us a picture: Lunches, snacks, dinners, kidlet-friendly menu item, breakfast, whatever. Aren't we all looking for more ideas? More variety? Here's your chance to share. Our "Email us" link is in the sidebar, just leave a comment on this post if it isn't working for you.

And now for the Frequently Asked Questions section:

Will you be posting nutritional information? Calories? Recipes for displayed photos?
Ah hahaha! Sorry, that would just take up way. too. much. time.
Just a brief description and a photo. But if you decide to submit all that useful information with you pic, we will most likely include it.

Are you good at taking pictures of food?
No. Blurriness is pretty much a guaranteed thing.
(If you're getting excited to take a picture of your dinner tonight, or your lunch tomorrow, you might want to check out these 8 Tips For Taking Mouth Watering Food Pictures)

Will it really be the healthiest thing you ate in a day?
Most likely. Unless I forget to take a picture of it. Then, no.
Really, we just want to get lots of ideas to share with everyone. So don't not send us a picture because your tuna sandwich at lunch was not as healthy as your bowl of oatmeal and blueberries you had for breakfast.

So take out those cameras, set them in your kitchen and send us a picture. If we don't get any emails, you'll just be stuck with Molly and me. (Haha. Molly doesn't even know it yet!) In which case there may be a photo here and there of Christmas cookies and grapefruit soda.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, go click the broccoli to see last night's dinner.

I got in the habit of posting my healthy concoctions on my blog - exciting to see I'm not the only one with this idea!

I'll let it go for a few days until I get more pretty pictures, and then I'll try to pick an especially nice one to share. Tonight I'm making butternut squash soup for dinner, which should come out pretty (and I already checked the calories - something like 120 in a bowl! Amazing).

PS - I check your blog a few times a day, so you definitely have a devoted reader here :)

What a cool new feature! Wish I could take better pictures. (Also wish I had more interesting "healthy" examples but I'm not much of a chef.)

And last night's dinner looked great--if you've found a whole wheat pasta that doesn't taste like cardboard, I'm jealous. (We cheat and use Barilla Plus which has some good stuff but Evil White flour too).

Cool new feature. However, my healthy-food-meter broke so you won't be seeing any submissions from me for awhile. It will be a good place to come and get some ideas so I can make something healthy instead of eating at the "Stuff-Your-Face" mexican restaurant.

Thanks Carolyn!

Robin, thanks. and Love the profile pic. (BL tonight! woohoo!)

laura, 120 calories? wow. (Knowing that, i'd probably go back for thirds, lol) Can't wait to see your pictures.

Crabby, Aaron's not a fan of whole wheat pasta and he really liked this kind. It was in a tan box...ok, when I'm done responding, I'll go dig it out of the trash. Anyway, this might sound funny but I think the spiral shape helped the texture. Weird.

Amber (ts), "Stuff-Your-Face" mexican restaurant. You're not talking about the 'Rio are you? And hey. If you can find something relatively good-for-you there, take a picture! No one said anything about portion control, lol!

arpl. Your comments are the ones that make my day, Thanks for de-lurking!

Thanks Cara, and I didn't respond to your comment yesterday but it was a really interesting one (about the processed foods and journaling...)

Marie. I actually thought about going back and taking pictures of everything I ate, but instead of just snapping the shot, I'll sit there and fuss over the lighting and such so it just ends up taking to much time. (toblerone, yummm.)

Oh yeah, BL tonight. Woohoo! I am psyched. I'm glad I have a blog now so I can rant about it tomorrow. I'm sure I won't like how it goes down tonight! Darn black team. :)
