Well, after my lousy weigh-in on Friday something inside me just clicked. "Stupid scale... I'll show him!"
So Saturday, I rocked it. In fact Sunday morning I got on the scale and not only was my gain gone, I was down another half pound. Now let me share with you why this is nothing short of a miracle. We started out the day here for an extended family birthday breakfast.(I love this place. I just ignore that "corral" is part of the name)
Then back home for a birthday party which included the awesomest Spiderman cupcakes you've ever seen. Frosting 2 inches high. The kids ate most of them, Aaron ate 2 of them, we took one to a neighbor's house, and HaHAAA! No more cupcakes. I escaped with a lick of frosting. Then out on a date! (and thankfully not to Arby's this time) I had some jumbo shrimp tacos. These were fantastic. Not a salad, but not battered and fried either.

What a great day. Seriously. I also managed to squeeze in a 4-mile run between festivities. No deprivation, no guilt, happy number on the scale the next morning.
Now I just need this attitude to carry through Thanksgiving...

Way to GO! :)
Nice job!
I can't believe you love Golden Corral...
So while you were saying no to the cupcakes, I was saying, "Let's have a cupcake party!" to my husband. We had one and I only ate 2, cause they weren't as good as I wanted them to be. HA!
THanks Mrs. F!
Tara, "I can't believe you love Golden Corral..." lol, We only eat there for some extended family special occasions. and yes, I love it. ALL of my kids can find something they like, and I love their dessert bar!
Well done!!
Katieo-1, Evil Scale-0.
Congratulations!
I, like Mrs. F, was not nearly so virtuous. For some reason I HAD to have cake last night, and did not stop at a small piece either.
(But it was awesome, and worth every bite. I'll make up for it later, I swear.)
Wow, a four-miler is great! You'll be fantastic in your Thanksgiving 5K.
WOW!!! Way to show some self control! I don't know if I could have ignored cupcakes, but good on you for doing so!
I'm TOTALLY with you on the fish tacos - LOVE THEM...but the Golden Corral? Haha, to each his or her own! ;)
So impressive that you managed to squeeze in a good run too. Way to show that scale who's boss.
sarah, lol. Actually it's more like,
katie- 1, evil scale- 3,457
Crabby. It's funny, having MORE temptations facing me, I actually went into overdrive. If it was one little cupcake or whatever, I would've totally had one. But since I knew I would be battling all day I just gritted my teeth and said no to everything!
Mommy Donna, thanks! (actually it's a 4 mile run. Does that seem like an odd distance? Not a 5k, not 5 miles.)
ThickChick, I KNEW I'd have to defend the Golden Corral. What can I say? Sometimes those buffets hit just the right spot, lol! (Those fish tacos had a really delicious pineapple salsa over them too. They were SO yummy)
Wow, that is great for you! If only I could harness the evil of the scale and use it against him like you did. Unfortunately it usually has the opposite effect. Those tacos look really good, I have never seen a shrimp taco on a menu before.
That's awesome. The no deprivation is so important. Because I'm a relative newcomer here, if I can ask - what's your framework? Counting calories, general eat-what's-right, or something else?
woo hoo! nice job avoiding the spidey cupcakes! and a 4 mile run? can i just say i think i'd die or my knees would explode if i tried to run 4 miles...so, nice job! very impressive!
congrats, just another reason you rock!
hey, where do you live??? for some reason I always thought that Golden Corrals only exist in Michigan!
Sweet weekend!
I didn't lose a lb, but I didn't gain one either. Disappointment though.
Erin, HA! " If only I could harness the evil of the scale and use it against him like you did." Yeah, if only I could do it all the time...
and seriously those shrimp tacos were to DIE FOR!
Jaime, It totally depends on the day. Most of the time I do a modified Body for Life plan. (small meal of complex carb + protein 5 to 6 times a day, unlimited veggies). Right now though, I'm logging everything I eat in a little notebook, to get a sense of my calories, (you know, make sure I'm a little more *aware* of any extra stuff). ANd then some days, it's just a general eating-what's-right getting in those fruits and veggies kind of a day. I have a hard time sticking to any one plan for the long haul. And since I figure I want to be doing this for the rest of my life, it's kind of a combination of things.
Thanks Meg. lol, exploding knees? I actually thought of you with our spiderman cupcakes. Yes, they were store-bought, but they still looked SO good.
Mamacita, I didn't even KNOW they had Golden Corrals in Michigan. I had never even been to one until I moved out here! (We're in Utah)
pom, "I didn't lose a lb, but I didn't gain one either." Argh. Those maintenance weeks can be really frustrating!
Congrats on the mention in the December issue of "Women's Health"!
THANKS TEENA! :)
way to go being mentioned in WH!
No worries, you are not alone in your love of the Corral! We have a decent one here and most of the food is pretty good AND not horribly bad for you if you make the right choices.
Those shrimp tacos...mmmmmmm! YUM!
adora, thank goodness, I'm not alone in my love of the Corral! loL!
you say "4 mile run" like it's no big thing. ha.
