I need a new pair of "goal" jeans. That's right. The smallest pair of pants I OWN (Banana Republic Size 8's) fit perfectly. I think part of me still thinks I can't possibly fit into anything 6 or 4 ish... ever. Weird. I've just never done it before and am having a hard time visualizing it. So sometime in the next couple of days I've got to sneak out to my favorite secondhand store and pick some up. Do the rest of you have "goal" pants? I KNOW some of you do...What do you think, is it more discouraging or motivating for you?

Do You Have "Goal" Jeans?

Yes! My goal pants are what I call my progress pants. They are a bit tight now, so I hope they'll fit soon (though then it'll be the wrong season, oh well). They weren't very motivating until I'd seen some results and shrank a little - now they are great because I can see that they fit better than they did a month ago. Congrats on needing new jeans! After you get to goal, I command you to go get yourself some nice jeans. I know they can be expensive, but really, they fit WELL. And you deserve them!
I don't have what you'd call goal trousers (sorry, I'm Scottish), but I do have 'check' ones. It's a pair of jeans I bought, in a rush mistaking the 6 on the size label for an 8 (these are UK sizes, not sure what the US equivalent would be). I was upset that they were tight when I put them on, until it was pointed out that they were a size smaller than I usually wear. Admittedly, I'd been strictly dieting for a wee while beforehand, and got a bit underweight. I've put on a bit of weight since then, but so long as I can just fit into those trousers, I know things are OK.
A wee bit off the subject of your post, I guess. But anyway, congratulations on the progress.
I don't wear jeans but I have goal skirts.
Yep, I have goal jeans. They're too big on me now. :)
I knew that technically they weren't my END-goal jeans, but they were a pair that I really, really loved and wore when my BF and I first got together, so I wanted to be able to wear them again. Guess what - 4 1/2 years later - not that great! Go figure, huh? Style? Change in 4 years?
yeah, I definitely do the goal jeans thing! In fact, when I gain weight, I'll usually go shopping and buy a few pants and shirts, all a size smaller than what I fit in at the store, and then I hang them (tags and all) in my closet so I see them each time I get dressed. It really motivates me to see brand new, cute clothes just waiting for me to fit in them!
i definitely have goal jeans...actually, i have multiple pairs! some fit really well two years ago, some i was hoping to shrink into two years ago...so, hopefully i'll be able to a) get back into the ones that fit and then b) get into the goal jeans from two years ago. it's gonna take forever...hopefully they won't be out of style by then!
I used to keep a pair of my super skinny sister's old jeans in my closet. I would try them on every once in a while. Then one day - after a few very stressful and unhealthy months, they fit! (I lose weight when I am stressed because I don't eat, I know it is some people's dream, but it isn't all that great). Anyway - after being excited that they fit, I realized that I was too skinny and I didn't look good and I really didn't feel good. What is the use of being skinny if you look like a boy? Anyway - I threw them away and decided that I needed to focus on eating so that I could be healthy again. Sorry - long comment - but I realized that there is such a thing as too skinny.
Oh, I do have goal jeans....size 10 white GAP jeans! Actually I like what another said, they are my progress jeans. I would love to wear size 8 jeans. Yeah for you!!!!
Good idea, I need goal pants!
Sorry to say that my goal jeans were my oldest son's...he grew out of some really cool jeans but they just didn't make it around my waist very well. They look really nice, however. PS..he didn't outgrow the waist. He's just too tall for them now. They hover above his ankles. Sigh. If I hadn't given birth to him, I'd wonder if I was really his mother.
My favorite part of your post is where you say "I've got to sneak out to my favorite secondhand store." That's my frugal friend!
And I really like amberbeemiller's comment about not eating enough and being too skinny. "The world" says that skinny is always better, but you have to be brave and say that healthy is best.
I have both extremes in my closet -
Size 8 Calvin Klein's that I feel really hot in but also the size 20's that I wore three years ago. Neither pair fits right now...I'm right in the middle but I think it's good to keep a reminder of where you've been (high and low).
I NEVER want to be in the 20's again but want desperately to wear those size 8's with some high heeled boots this winter! (Katie, I can relate to the 2nd hand thing...both pair were bought at Savers!)
Ladies, thanks for all of your fanstastic comments!
Bri, I got the idea from you (although, I thought you looked just fine in your "goal" pants). And IF ONLY deserving and getting always went hand in hand :)
Aislinnv, Pants seem to be a better gauge for me too than something as evil as the scale (although I still am held hostage by it week after week!) And so cool that you're Scottish!
Melis, Ah, the goal skirt seems a friendlier option as there are no thighs to fit! lol!
Shelby, I loved reading that first line! Congrats!
Janae, Sounds like you've got a good little motivator there! I just don't think I could actually bring myself to spend money on things that I couldn't really wear. (well, more than ONE thing...)
But I understand the logic and seeing those things day after day might help me to make better choices...or it might just make me mad. ;)
Meg. PUHlease. Your jeans EVER going out of style? If that happens I know I'm doomed. You have impeccable taste. (and you WILL get there!)
Amber, I TOTALLY know what you mean: 'I lose weight when I am stressed because I don't eat, I know it is some people's dream, but it isn't all that great' When that whole thing with Clay and Melinda happened I dropped a few pounds because I had NO appetite whatsoever, for about 2 weeks. Totally stressed. Losing weight is way more fun (and healthy) when you don't have the life sucked out of you!
He thanks Cori! You gotta post when you fit into those jeans! :)
Hey Amy, For some reason, when I read your comment I was like, "Goal paints?" Why does she need goal paints?
emily, (is that the emily I think it is?) I have a feeling I will be have the same, "how am I your mother?" thought as my boys grow. They eat and eat and eat and eat (well, 2 of them do:) and are chickenskinny.
Oh wise Becca! So true, good point!
Kallunkimom, Yay for Savers! :)
I like the idea of reminding you where you've been and where you're going.
I'm a plus size and recently had to purchase jeans because my others were in danger of falling to my ankles and have no belt loops. I was thrilled to be able to buy a pair with NO elastic. I am looking forward to being able to buy some skinny jeans but that will take more work!
A
That's a great idea!
It stings a little since I'm sitting here in my "fat" jeans while I'm reading this but it's still a great idea.
YAY A!! All that work is finally paying off!
ms, You totally crack me up.
i definitely do. its not just girls that can do that. lol.
