Molly: This article, "8 Foods You Should Eat Everyday," caught my eye. Hmmm, I wondered if my peanut butter m&m's were on the list? (Remember? PB is healthy for you!) Or how about my homemade chocolate chip cookies? Here's the rundown:
1. Spinach: benefits include sexual enhancement (since my mom reads these posts I won't comment...let's just say I won't be feeding Taylor any spinach!) but also muscle growth, bone builder and enhanced eyesight. My bones were weakened from all of the fertility drugs, I really should start eating more spinach. Although the article says its the ultimate MAN food because it's a "Biceps builder."
2.Yogurt is a cancer fighter and bone builder. It also boosts immunity. You want probiotic yogurt though. Not all yogurts are so make sure the label says "live and active cultures."
3.Tomatoes. I hate tomatoes. I can do salsa and spaghetti sauce but I can't do raw. BUT, this is why I should: cancer fighter, heart healthy, boosts immunity.
4. Carrots are a cancer fighter (I see a common thread), they also boost immunity, and enhance eyesight.
5. Blueberries are a cancer fighter, brain stimulant, heart healthy, boosts immunity. They have more antioxidants than any other fruit, blueberries help prevent cancer, diabetes, and age-related memory changes.
6. Black beans are good for muscle growth, brain stimulant, heart healthy. All beans are good for your heart, but none can boost your brain power like black beans.
7. Walnuts are a cancer fighter and brain stimulant, They also boost immunity and are good for muscle growth. Did you know they've got more omega-3s than salmon?
8. Oats are good for muscle growth, They're also a brain stimulant and are heart healthy. They have lots of soluble fiber. Yes, oats are loaded with carbs, but the release of those sugars is slowed by the fiber. They have lots of protein too.
So afer reading this I realized I will probably die of cancer. All of these foods help fight cancer and I just don't naturally gravitate to any of them!

Not to be a complete downer but yeah, odds are like 1 in 3 people will get cancer or something. ouch. But I decided it's not going to be me! Yes lots of these foods arent' exactly on my daily menu, but I do eat other healthy food and exercise and maintain a healthy weight and don't smoke and eat fibre and wear sunscreen and use organic household cleaners and scent free detergents. But I refuse to eat oatmeal alright! I'll take my oats in my oatmeal cookies thank you very much. (one can only do so much!) lol
I don't naturally gravitate towards any of them either. I'll eat spinach...if it's covered in cream sauce. I'll eat tomatoes...if they're part of a marinara. I'll eat blueberries...if they're in muffins. I think I have a serious cancer-fighter deficiency.
I'm with Randi. Oats in oatmeal cookies are the way to go.
Actually, I might just take a day next week and get al of these foods in. Just to see if I can do it.
That's a good reminder of all of the good foods we should be eating. I always forget about blueberries when I buy fruit...I guess I should really remember now!
I've been making fruit shakes every morning for the last little while--takes the stress out of trying to figure out what to make for myself when the mornings are so crazy. Otherwise I start my day off bad, and you know where that takes us...
So I put strawberries, blueberries, banana, yogurt, ground flax seed, protein powder and a little orange juice in my Magic Bullet for about 10 seconds and I'm fighting cancer every day!!!
PS: Steel-cut oats with cinnamons and raisins are a great alternative to mushy nasty regular oatmeal.
Erin-that's like me-I'll eat spinach if it's drenched with cheese...ymm. Tomatoes? Give me salsa & chips.
Kate-Too ambious for me to eat all of the foods for the week. Anyways, I'd have too much gas.
Karen-fruit shakes! That's Me! And if I don't, I start the day off bad. I buy the huge bags of frozen fruit @ either Costco or Sams. It really saves alot of $.
Thanks for the comments everyone!
Great post, Mol.
Too bad I'm a day late...again. Lately I've been trying to have a salad each day and throw in some spinach leaves. If you can eat a salad, you can eat spinach. Baby spinach is easiest to eat though, I would say. Also, I have a great recipe for granola that uses steel-cut oats and lots of nuts (ground up) and is very tasty. I eat it just about every day.
What? The article didn't dark chocolate? That is VERY good for you (in small amounts), and it's my healthy, yummy treat. You just can't eat w/ milk or it loses its benefits.
I laughed out loud when I read "I won't be giving Taylor spinach." Ha ha ha!
One more thing, Mol.
You said that you just can't do tomatoes raw, and you like salsa and spaghetti sauce better. Take heart, because tomatoes is the exception to the "raw is better" rule. The lycopene in tomatoes is much more available in cooked than raw tomatoes. It's like 10 to 1. So processed tomatoes are actually better for you.
I feel like such a star! I eat carrots and yogurt every day! I like to use spinach in place of lettuce on my sandwiches. My sadly cheese-less sandwiches. I miss cheese.
I'm with you all on the oatmeal cookies, though. I wonder if you used dried blueberries in place of raisins if you would have a super cancer fighting cookie. Hmm, something to experiment with!
Molly,
I knew there was a reason Matt keeps buying the huge bag of spinach at Costco! I've got to stop that habit NOW!
Everything else except the oats and blueberries I am ok on - gotta do what you can in my family to fight off the cancer bugs ya know!
