Molly: First of all - .6 loss! That is great considering I was away from home. My goal for last week was to go to the gym. At the last minute, my family went to Vegas for a buying show (I own a home decor & furniture store). I walked for two days straight. The day we drove home, my son got the stomach flu so I have been up at night with him and then my baby. So, I did not go to the gym yesterday or today. I'm just lucky to have my eyes open. I'm going to try to get back on the Weight Watchers plan starting on Sunday. I just need to get back on the program. It's so hard when you travel or are staying at someone else's home with their food. I actually packed my fiber One bars which I thought was a victory for me. I just can't wait until my life gets back to normal.
Katie: Well, in light of my wretched eating yesterday, (although I didn't OVEReat- I just didn't very healthily, "Mmm, fruit tart for breakfast...cookies for lunch? Sure!"), I'm thrilled with .5. I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that since my muffintop post, where I was positively still a 10, I have only lost ONE point FIVE pounds. Hello?? This more than anything else just goes to show it's not all about the number on the scale. I was sure I was going fit into that 8 in a weigh-in week where I lost 2.9 or something like that. So, let's take one more look at those words of wisdom on our sidebar:
"Both of us use weights on a regular basis and find our actual weight doesn't always match the changes we see in our body."
Amen. This will save me from discouragement about the scale for at LEAST another month! ;)
Ladies in the race? How'd you do this week?
Now onto those treats:
Has anyone checked out The Weigh We Were lately? (They're in our sidebar under "They Did It.") They revamped their website and now have a blog directory. So all of you "weighty" bloggers should skedaddle over there and add your site. Here's a "before and after" I pulled from them. This is Erin, she is 29 and went from a Size 16 to a 6 in a year and a half. Click on the photo for the rest of the story.
Have you guys visited Crabby McSlacker lately? Well, awhile back she had a really fun personality quiz...not what you're thinking I promise. Go check it out, it's hilarious: What Kind of Food Freak Are You?
And after you say hi over there, you might want to go check a new weighty blog skinnify. Even though they've only got a few posts up, they're worth the click- super witty. Also, grrrl power has a great post up about listening to her body with some great tips in there.
And FYI
Molly's weigh in should be posted a little later in the morning, so check back!
Thanks so much for all of your support and encouragement with my victory post yesterday! I wish I could fly all of you out here just to go to lunch and hang out. But that won't be happening anytime soon, so just know I consider my bloggy friends the best support out there!

Good point about how unimportant the number on the scale is in terms of body shape (and fitness!). I guess muscle really does weigh more than fat! You look great!
Why are we so attached to the scale?? It's like the attitude of your whole day, even week rest on this one tiny number on the scale. It's so much better (especially for your sanity) to use other measures such as how you feel, how your clothes are fitting, how you can finally comfortably cross your legs again...THOSE are the really measures of success!
Great job! These 140's are so tough to get out of. I'm hanging in at 142.6. That's -.8 from two weeks ago (I'm not counting last week's strange weigh-in of 141.6. That weight lasted about 4 minutes!)
Oh, and you've mentioned nursing. I quit nursing 5 months ago, and I've been able to lose weight better since then. I think my body was hanging on to some fat to use in making milk. Have you heard of this phenomenon? ---Nursing helps you lose at first, but after a while, your body hangs on to an extra 5-8 pounds to ensure it can make milk. I think I read that on the la leche league website or kellymom.com. Just wanted to let you know.
Thank you for the link! Hope the quiz doesn't drive people crazy; it's meant to be annoying. And I can't wait to try out your links to some great sounding blogs.
And Katieo, I totally didn't get your hint so I responded like a dumb-ass to your comments over at my blog, sorry!
Anyway, enough about me, I think your pants size is a MUCH better indicator of progress. Because you're totally right about the weights--as others have pointed out, you're trading lean muscle for fat, so weight becomes way less relevant.
I've only lost 4 lbs so far on WW, but I've been working out like a fiend and can see a difference in how my clothes fit already. It's great motivation!!
woo hoo! good job on the loss! I totally agree about the scale vs. pants size thing. When I first started doing pilates I went down a jeans size but the number on the scale didn't move. Plus, I find numbers on pants tags to be much more fun anyway...oh, and thanks for the linkage! we wouldn't be here w/o you!
THanks soap box girl and Carolyn. WHy is it so dang hard to remember these things that we KNOW? (And crossing your legs! Good point!)
dj, I totally hang on to fat while I'm nursing. It's actually been quite a hurdle to stop using it as an excuse. So maybe when I reach my goal and THEN stop breastfeeding, I'll lose a couple really easily. Or maybe the two will coincide; we'll see. I appreciate the thought, it's nice to hear you've had a similar experience and it's not just in my head :)
Crabby, if by "annoying" you mean "really funny," then yes, I agree. And don't worry about not getting the hint (I totally laughed though) I always appreciate the link love.
struck my fancy, good for you for working out so hard- Clothes fitting better IS such a great reward!
and meg. I agree. pants size numbers are so much more fun...and no annoying decimal points!
Boo scale! Yay skinny clothes! you said it sister! Yay muscles! Just think of all the people you can beat up now!
clothes always tell a better tale than the scale. looking good and feeling good matter more :)
Yay girlies. Good job!
Congrats you two, you're doing great! :)
Thanks for the links to The Weigh We Were, etc. You are such a great resource for the rest of us!!!
Katie, congrats on the size 8s!!!! I think the best day of my weight loss life was buying GAP size 10 jeans...I'm dreaming of the day I can fit into their 8s! Way to go!
Congrats on the loss. None for me. Just maintained since last week. Hope to kick it up a notch this coming week.
I don't know where my manners are! I can't believe I forgot to say thank you for the link. You're so awesome.
Many thanks,
-Mia
