Did you know that strawberries only have 4 calories? Or that an avocado has 13.5 grams of fiber? Wouldn't these things be useful to remember when you're thinking about what to have for a snack or a meal?
A reader suggested these cute little magnets from Simple Memory Art. Each fridge magnet recommends a different healthy food. They are color-coded into food groups with handy little vitamin and mineral symbols too.

And check out all of the handy info that is packed on these things:

Lisa, who sent me an email about these, said, "They just make my fridge happy!" Besides making my fridge look cuter, I think I might be more likely to make a healthy choice if these little guys were staring at me.

So here's the best part: We're giving away an entire set! All you have to do is leave a comment letting us know what your favorite healthy food is and you'll automatically be entered to win. Check back Friday morning and if you're the lucky winner email us your contact information and we'll send them right away!

Here are the rules:
-One entry person please
-No anonymous comments will be considered. Don't know how to comment? First, go here, then come back and give it a try!
-You have until Thursday night at midnight to leave a comment
-The winner will be randomly picked and announced on Friday morning
-Make sure you make a comment on THIS post to be considered

Good Luck! And thanks to Simple Memory Art for providing the magnets!

Oh boy oh boy! This is exciting! Those things are cute!
Well my new favorite healthy food is edamame or baby soy beans. I got ready to eat frozen packages at Costco that are only 100 calories that you just microwave and put sea salt on and eat. It's perfect for a snack (think popcorn) but filling enough for a meal!

I absolutely love advocado, it is the most yummy thing in the world and so good for you! No salad is complete without sliced and diced advocado!!

My favorite healthy food has to be avocado. I swear I'm most happy when I cut into an avocado and it is perfectly ripe and delicious. Add some salt and I'm a happy girl.

Oh wow, that's really neat! I have no idea how many calories are in everything I eat.

My favorite healthy food is blueberries. The whole family loves them. I wonder if you can eat too many though. We bought 2 huge containers at Costco on Saturday and they were gone by Monday.

Thanks,
Leah (leahcarter3@msn.com)

I would have to say hearts of palm, they give me that salty fix I crave instead of globbling down chips.

I LOVE watermellon! The seedless variety makes me even happier. 2nd on my list is strawberries. They make cottage cheese much tastier. I am really enjoying this time of year when I can get my favorites at "in season" prices.

Good idea with the magnets.

Oooooh, I want, I want! How seriously fun!
And I agree with groovy babe...I love me some avocado. :)

Oh, can Canadians enter?

I'd say my favourite health food is blueberries as well and broccoli. Not together of course. It's the versatility of blueberries and the easiness of steaming broccoli and tada a great veggie on the side.

Right now I can't get enough cucumbers - luckily my mom's plants are bearing very well right now.

Ok, I will jump in on this one, I would have to say avocado is my fav. Although I do agree with randi's comment about edamame, they are YUMMO!!

I would have to say an apple w/some natural peanut butter. It has to be the natural kind. The other stuff has too much sugar so its way too addicting!

How sweet! Thank you for holding a contest, what fun! My favorite healthy food is plain air popped popcorn. It has been a life saver for me when I am hungry but need to avoid other snacks, it's light and easy to take with me too. Lady Rose (80 lbs lost so far, only 60ish to go)

I would have to say red peppers. I slice them up and eat them or saute them and put them on everything. My kids love them too!

my favorite healthy food is fiji apples and 1 tbs natural peanut butter!!

Seems to me what we all need are B Horror Movie Victims around our kitchens (find 'em at Archie McPhee)... put them by the dred birthday cake, the slime oosing Costco PIZZA!, the unnaturally preserved Oreos. Bread Pirate Roberts is cool.

The fridge chart is much more cute.

Popcorn and carrots are some of my favorite healthy foods. Well planned, great sourdough bread with real butter tops the charts though. Julia Child said it was good for us--must be!

i be needing that.

Avocado a week... fat be damned! Love it!

Cherries are second. Sometimes first. Black Forest Cherries.

You guys are so cool, contests on your site and everything? Wow. I'm impressed.

And, of course, I'll share my favorite snack for a chance! Lately, I LOVE carrots, if I come right home from the grocery store and cut them up and put them in a tupperware, whenever I feel snack-y (and yes, that's now an adjective..."Hmm, she looks snacky" haha) they're easy to grab. I usually cut up my celery into bite size pieces at the same time so they're clean and ready to eat. Yummm-o.

What a cool blog a stubbled upon. My fave healthy food is strawberries. mmm. I can't get enough of them that is for sure. Great blog girls.

Since avocado has been stated many times already, I'll pick something else. I love sugar snap peas. I could eat a ton of them. They're healthy yet sweet. YUM!

My favorite healthy food is.........spinach. Oh how things change when we get older and mom is not shoving food in our faces. The ultra cool thing is that my 5yr DD loves spinach also.

Raspberries...perfectly ripe and right off the bush. We used to go raspberry picking in New York with our children. Really...nothing tastes more delightful than freshly picked sweet raspberries. The only downside is your fingers hurt for days from those pesty thorns.

Very cool idea!

I'll abstain from the contest, just 'cause I hang out here all the time and I want a "new" person to win.

(But for the record, my current favorite healthy food, if "health" is defined very broadly, is dark chocolate covered raisins. Or wait, ripe peaches. Or no, that would be pistachios! But avocados are so good... Damn. I knew there was a good reason I don't enter contests!)

My favorite healthy food is roasted red pepper hummus.

Pick me! Pick me! Fave snack would have to be frozen strawberries. Fresh are great too but frozen (no sugar added) are so yummy on hot, humid days.

These are too cute. My favorite healthy food is strawberries! Fresh or cut up in a salad.

Those are cute! My favorite snack is (in order):

Strawberries
Grapes (especially frozen)
Celery & hummus.

So as the Miller clan knows, I LOVE, thats right L.O.V.E. watermelon as a diet food. Even though you all should know the beauty of this magical fruit let me explain. Tastes like heaven, full of the water you don't want to drink when dieting, and fills you up fast. Health benefits: full of Lycopene, amino acids, and helps maintain cardiovascular health (i.e. your heart). Now you know why I love it.

Also an avo girl. Hence the extra 15 (but healthy) pounds.

Mmmm, how about bell pepper slices and hummus?

Mandarin oranges. I could eat CRATES of them.

Those magnets are awesome and my fridge could totally use some color. Anyways, although I love avocado because I can use it for so much, I have to say tofu is my favorite. I can use it for dinner or blend it into a breakfast shake, and it gives me protein and iron.

Favorite healthy foods? I'd have to say yogurt- a nice cup of non-fat plain yogurt with chopped up strawberries are so satisfying as a mid-morning/afternoon snack.

Almonds are a close second- give me a handful of those and I'm a happy camper!

Frozen berries in yogurt or cottage cheese. Yummy for breakfast or for a quick snack.

Nice magnets!

these would go great next to my "in this house, carrot cake counts as a vegetable" magnet.

I thought I left a comment but I don't see it now. lol

My favorite is the Avocado...I slice it up with tomato and mushrooms and toss it with Basalmic vinegar. yummm

I am totally loving Raspberries though, we have wild Red and Black growing all around our house. Its especially nice to send my kids outside for their snack. lol I like to put them with chilled frozen vanilla yogurt.

My favorite healthy snack is almonds. They are easy to tuck away into my purse and grab out when I'm in need of a boost. No refrigeration, no heating, no garbage and no mess. A few will get you through a really long meeting and they are just plain tasty!!!

super cute and a great idea. Bravo!

My fave healthy foods are bell peppers. I love red, orange, and yellow ones especially. I'll eat them raw (the red are so sweet!) and throw in just about any dish I'm making. I think they're the perfect vegetables.

Chandrima said...

Ok, well since everyone's already listed my favorite fruits and veggies, I'm left with the only other healthy thing I eat when I seriously need to feel nutritionally balanced - my favorite fish, salmon. Requires very little added to make the natural delicious flavors come out and you can prepare it anyway you like - baked, broiled, sauted, anything! Served with a fresh herb sauce and it's like a serving of heaven! I think I'll have some for dinner now that I'm talking about it so much!

Cool! Well, I'm probably not eligible being in Canada but I thought I'd share my all time favourite healthy snack with you.
EDAMAME!
Edamame is a green vegetable more commonly known as a soybean. In East Asia, the soybean has been used for over two thousand years as a major source of protein. As a snack, the pods are lightly boiled in salted water, and then the seeds are squeezed directly from the pods into the mouth with the fingers. They are sooooo yummy and guilt free :)
You can find them in the frozen vegetable section in many grocery stores.
